We have the power to uplift someone or to put them down. Through our words, we have the power to give or take from someone, or ourselves. We have the power in our words to build faith or to destroy it. We can encourage and edify people and make lasting differences in their lives. We can be an incredible influence by just saying a few kind words. A smile and a friendly “Good Morning” can make a difference in that person’s whole day. Our outlook on life changes with the words we say. Our words have the power to shape but they are also heavily influenced by our thoughts and our subconscious. I hope you enjoy my 2 part series on “The Power of our Thoughts and Words.” Today’s post focuses on the power of our thoughts and my next post will focus on the power in the words we speak.
I love what Yoda’s Character in the Star Wars Movies especially when he says: “No. Try not. Do or do not. There is no try!” – Yoda. Yes, I am influenced by Star Wars and I have loved the movies ever since I was a kid. Here’s proof of my Star Wars Fanatics. Today I paid $85 for a ticket to listen to an orchestra play Star Wars anthems as C3P0 narrates the saga of movies on a big screen. Anyway, there is much wisdom that can be derived from Master Yoda. Yoda tells his apprentice Luke Skywalker to use his ability to lift his ship out of a swamp. Luke responds by saying “Alright I’ll give it a try.” Yoda wisely counters Luke by telling him “No. Try not. Do or do not. There is no try!”
Bad Thoughts Almost Guarantee Your Failure
I realize that Yoga was a master of the Force. I also understand that there are times where we do need to TRY THINGS. The spirit of my point is that saying “I will try” is the minimum that we should say. You can do more than you can even imagine. You have the power within you to live out your destiny. When you tell yourself that “There is no try” you are exercising a belief in yourself subconsciously that you can. The worst thing that you can tell yourself is “I can’t do that.” When you tell yourself that you can’t do something you will subconsciously believe it. This entire exercise is about changing your thoughts. Bad thoughts almost guarantee your failure, while good thoughts increase your chances for success dramatically.
The words we speak are influenced by our thinking.
“The state of your life is nothing more than a reflection of your state of mind.” – Dr. Wayne W. Dyer
It is not only the words that we speak but also our thoughts that have the power to build up and to destroy. You have your subconscious mind and the conscious mind. Your conscious mind is easy for you to recognize as it thinks on the surface with logic. Your subconscious mind is hard to recognize as it thinks below the surface where your thoughts are hidden. Some therapists would tell us that the subconscious feeds on negative thoughts. What you really do is based on your subconscious mind and the negative or positive thoughts it has.
Have You Ever Wondered Why You Do Some Of The Things You Do?
A lot of what you really do is based on your subconscious. You can take your motivation, your dreams, your desires, etc and see how your thinking influences what you tell yourselves. Sometimes it’s the wrong program that you are listening too. The process of change involves you speaking the right words to yourself. What are you telling yourself? Transforming the way you think also requires that you change your programming. What programing are you listening to?
These Weeks Reflect and Apply: Do You Want To Live A Life Filled with Possibilities?
